One dead, two seriously injured in ‘violent struggle’ at Brentwood Bay home

One person is dead, two are seriously injured and one man is in police custody after a violent struggle inside a Brentwood Bay home early Saturday.

Major crime detectives from the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, which probes homicides and suspicious deaths, are investigating.

Central Saanich police were called to a house on Meadowlark Lane about 12:30 a.m. after reports of a disturbance, said Police Chief Les Sylven.

“Inside, we saw signs of a violent struggle and one person deceased and two others seriously injured,” Sylven said. The two injured people were taken to hospital.

The cause of death has not been released.

A man was arrested, although Sylven did not say where the arrest took place.

No charges have been laid.

Police have not released any information about the victims. Sylven would not say whether they were residents of the home or had a relationship with the man arrested, but said the attack was not random.

The house, on a cul-de-sac near Brentwood Bay village, was behind police tape Saturday as forensics investigators in white suits gathered evidence. Investigators will likely be there for several days, Sylven said.

The 1960s house is a mix of white stucco and reddish-brown wood and has wooden shutters. Two cars — an older model Subaru and an SUV — were parked in an arched car park.

Sylven said it’s too early to speak to a motive.

“At this time, it’s just the beginning of the investigation into a significant event,” he said.

“It really is a tragic event.”
