One man is dead and another was injured in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday afternoon southwest of Nanaimo.
Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle was heading east in the 1400-block of Nanaimo Lakes Road, about two kilometres from Wakesiah Avenue, when the driver lost control and went off the road, striking a tree stump, Nanaimo RCMP said.
East- and west-bound traffic on Nanaimo Lakes Road was affected and vehicles were being re-routed Wednesday afternoon.
The crash, reported to police at 12:30 p.m., is currently under investigation.
The male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.
