One person has been arrested and at least one was still at large Thursday evening after a standoff at a Cook Street residential complex that started with a report of a robbery at the building.
Police responded to the robbery call about 7:45 a.m. Officers said the victim was injured with an undisclosed weapon and taken to hospital with what are thought to be non-life-threatening injuries, said Const. Cam MacIntyre.
Persons believed to be suspects in the incident barricaded themselves inside a suite in the building, police said. That led to the lengthy standoff.
Cook Street between Bay Street and Queens Avenue, near George Jay Elementary School, was closed to traffic and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiaters were called in, MacIntyre said.
At about 6 p.m., police said that they had one person in custody and the streets were reopening.
Investigators do not believe there is a risk to the public, police said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Victoria police at 250-995-7654, extension 1, or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
