A man who had been driving a pickup along Sooke Road in Colwood at 11 p.m. Thursday was no match for a watchful West Shore RCMP officer.

First, the officer realized that the licence plate had been stolen from a vehicle in Parksville. Then he determined the truck had been reported stolen in Comox.

The truck was pulled over.

While he was still at the scene, the officer noticed a man who had stopped his vehicle nearby. It turned out that he had no driver’s licence and had a Vancouver warrant for his arrest for being unlawfully at large.

A search of the man turned up suspected opioids.

Police said the man will remain in custody before going back the federal prison system.
