Nominations open for Victoria city council byelection, set for Dec. 12

Nominations for Victoria’s Dec. 12 city council byelection opened on Tuesday. The byelection was originally scheduled for April 4 but was postponed by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nominations for Victoria’s Dec. 12 city council byelection opened on Tuesday.

The byelection was originally scheduled for April 4 but was postponed by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, nine candidates were vying to fill the seat vacated by Laurel Collins, who resigned from council after winning the Victoria riding for the NDP in last year’s federal election.

Nomination papers must be submitted by 4 p.m. Nov. 6.

Forms can be obtained by contacting the legislative services office in Victoria City Hall at 250-361-0571 or elections@victoria.ca. Offices at city hall are currently closed to the public.

Completed forms can be filed by email or by making an in-person appointment with legislative services.
