Foul play has been ruled out in the death of a 21-year-old woman found in a tent in a marshy, wooded area near the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Deanna Williams was found on the morning of June 2.
Nanaimo RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service did not find anything suspicious about her death at first, but later that day came across information that she had sought medical treatment for an assault that happened May 31.
A forensic autopsy completed Monday in Victoria showed that Williams had no physical injuries that would have contributed to her death, leading to the dismissal of foul play as a factor.
News of the assault had led police to take over the investigation and over several days they spoke with a number of people, and did a forensic examination of the area Williams was found. They also canvassed in the vicinity, collected video surveillance and obtained medical records.
The B.C. Coroners Service investigation is continuing.
