No appointment needed for first doses of COVID-19 vaccines on Vancouver Island

Adults in the Island Health region can now get their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment.

The health authority is offering a limited number of first doses to walk-ins for people 18 and older at clinics each day, while also expanding the number of appointments that can be booked, due to an increase in vaccine supply.

The availability of doses for people without appointments will depend on the daily supply at each clinic.

Island Health recommends booking an appointment through the province’s system to guarantee receiving a dose.

Second doses are not being offered to walk-ins and must be booked through the province’s system. Youth aged 12 to 17 years old must book an appointment or accompany an adult or sibling to a scheduled appointment.

Vaccination rates of people 12 and older on the Island vary from 64 per cent in Cowichan Valley West to 85 per cent on the Saanich Peninsula as of June 14, according to data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
