Nanaimo police looking for driver after woman struck in crosswalk

A 63-year-old woman was treated in hospital after a hit-and-run in a downtown Nanaimo crosswalk.

Police said the woman was knocked to the ground and suffered “significant but non-life-threatening injuries” as she crossed the street at Commercial Street and Terminal Avenue about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses told police a silver or white car left the scene. A grey 2009 Toyota Camry was found abandoned a short time later at Terminal and Cliff Street.

Police are following up with the registered owner of the Camry, who lives in the Lower Mainland.
