Nanaimo RCMP have issued a “heads up,” saying no one should be alarmed by the sight of a large aircraft circling the harbour Wednesday.

The warning notes NAV Canada will be conducting a flight inspection over Nanaimo harbour around midday.

The flight, which will use a large transport aircraft, will fly over Nanaimo harbour to assess and verify the safety and performance of the Nanaimo harbour airport.

It is weather dependent with an expected flying time of about 15 minutes.

According to NAV Canada, the private company that provides air traffic control and aeronautical information services in Canada, during these kinds of inspections the aircraft may descend and make numerous approaches to the airport to test the accuracy and safety of the navigation aids and instrument approach procedures.
