A courier company says its drivers will find somewhere else to park after it was told it must not use a parking lot in Nanaimo’s Beban Park as of next month.

Nanaimo city staff noticed courier vans parking for an hour or two every morning in the parking lot.

The company received notice from the city this month that it must stop using the parking lot by Sept. 7.

Park use has dropped because of the pandemic and regular activities are expected to return next month.

It is common in the courier business for drivers to park somewhere, whether it is at a business site, side of a road or a quiet parking lot, to rearrange boxes stacked in their vans, Brad Mah, an account manager for Corporate Couriers Logistics in Nanaimo, said Tuesday.

Sometimes, drivers will adjust the packages in the vans after delivering a portion of their load, he said.

Corporate Couriers has two locations in Nanaimo, he said. One is off McGarrigle Road and is close to the park.

Business has increased during the pandemic, Mah said.

The company is working with a commercial real estate agent in a search for a larger building, he said.

Corporate Couriers covers 120 routes throughout Vancouver Island every day, Mah said.

The company delivers for Amazon and other suppliers, he said.
