A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after rear-ending a vehicle on Six Mile Road Tuesday.

View Royal Fire, West Shore RCMP and B.C. Ambulance paramedics responded to Atkins Road and Six Mile Road around 1 p.m. after reports of a motorcycle crash.

The rider was on the ground with serious injuries being tended to by passersby, said View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst. The man was taken to Victoria General Hospital.

Hurst said it appears the rider struck the back of a northbound vehicle and lost control. The motorcycle was totalled, Hurst said. The occupant of the car was not injured.

West Shore RCMP is investigating.
