A 29-year-old motorcyclist is dead after a crash on Strathcona Parkway.

It’s the second fatality of 2018 in the Comox Valley involving a motorcyclist, said police.

The man was headed down from Mount Washington on the Strathcona Parkway when his motorcycle left the road and went down a steep embankment, said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni on Tuesday.

Strathcona Parkway is an 18-kilometre road with steep stretches up the mountain to Mount Washington Alpine Resort.

The crash was discovered about 3 p.m. on Monday. An investigation by North Vancouver Island Traffic Services and the B.C. Coroners Service is in the preliminary stages, said Terragni.

The parkway was closed while an RCMP collision analyst examined the scene, said police. The motorcycle will be mechanically inspected.

The motorcyclist’s family has been notified, but his name is not being released, said police.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the North Vancouver Island Traffic Services and cite file number 2018-471.
