Motorcyclist dies in crash at Cumberland and Union roads in Saanich

A motorcyclist died at the scene Monday in a collision with a car about noon at the intersection of Cumberland and Union roads. “It’s a terrible crash that has taken a man from his family,” said Saanich police Sgt. Julie Fast.

A motorcyclist died at the scene Monday in a collision with a car about noon at the intersection of Cumberland and Union roads.

“It’s a terrible crash that has taken a man from his family,” said Saanich police Sgt. Julie Fast. “Our condolences are extended to them all.”

The driver of the car was uninjured and is being investigated for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Investigators are trying to establish the events that led up to the crash, while analysts and forensic-identification officers are collecting evidence.

The B.C. Coroners Service has been contacted and Greater Victoria Police Victim Services is offering support to anyone who was affected.
