A vehicle veered off the road and into a power pole in Saanich early this morning, resulting in a power outage for thousands.

The SUV sheered the pole in half, but none of the three occupants in the vehicle sustained significant injuries, according to Saanich police.

Power was out for more than 2,000 customers in the Mount Doug and Gordon Head areas of Saanich.

The outage affected the area north of Bow Road, west of Tyndall Avenue, south of Cordova Bay and east of Westervelt Place.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, with speed likely being a factor, said Saanich Const. Markus Anastasiades.

Impairment by drug or alcohol was not a factor, he said.
