Two suspected of taking money from Jeneece Place donation box

Saanich police say two masked men broke into the Tillicum Centre on Tuesday and stole money from a Jeneece Place donation box.

Saanich police say two masked men broke into the Tillicum Centre on Tuesday and stole money from a Jeneece Place donation box.

Jeneece Place provides out-of-town families with a place to stay when children are in Greater Victoria for medical treatment.

The theft took place about 2 a.m.

The men can be seen on surveillance video walking from the area of a loading bay to the box. One of them broke the lock, and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

Saanich police Sgt. Jereme Leslie said it appears that the box was specifically targeted, calling it “tremendously appalling” that funds to help people during difficult times were stolen.

The other man had a black mask and was wearing black pants, black gloves, black shoes and a blue hoodie under a red jacket with black shoulders and arms.

Police ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
