A man with an outstanding warrant who was stopped by West Shore RCMP as he walked through a Metchosin neighbourhood ended up being charged with 12 more offences, including possession of a prohibited firearm and fleeing from police.

Police spotted the man after responding to a report of two suspicious people in the area of Duke Road and Chapel Heights about 5:50 a.m. on Sept. 4.

An officer recognized him as being the subject of a warrant out of Victoria.

Most of the additional charges stem from an Aug. 19 incident, said West Shore RCMP Const. Nancy Saggar. She said the man fled from police and drove through a red light into oncoming traffic.

He is alleged to have been in a vehicle stolen from View Royal.

There are also charges linked to another vehicle that was stolen from Comox.

Devan Lambert, 25, remains in custody.
