A man produced a weapon and threaten to harm someone as he stole a poppy donation box from a business early Thursday.

An arrest was made Thursday afternoon in connection with an incident in which a thief showed a weapon and threatened to harm a customer as the thief stole a poppy-donation box from a restaurant in the early morning.

The man entered a Tim Hortons restaurant in the 2600 block of Blanshard Street about 3:20 a.m. and was seen cutting a security cord and taking the donation box.

When confronted, the thief showed a weapon and threatened to harm a customer, police said.

He fled with the poppy box.

Police were called but could not immediately locate the man. The Tim Hortons does have surveillance cameras and Victoria police said that was one of their investigative avenues.

Before the arrest was made, the suspect was described as white, in his 20s, about five-foot-eight with a medium build.

Victoria police ask anyone with information on the theft to call them at 250-995-7654. Anonymous reports can be made through Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
