Comox Valley RCMP are investigating a possible child luring incident after a man in a black van pulled up beside a girl riding her bike and held up two bags of candy.

Police, who received the report at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, said the 11-year-old girl was on Willemar Avenue in Courtenay when she encountered the man.

The lone male driver did not say anything, but held up the bags of candy and pointed to them, said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni.

“Investigators would like to speak with anyone who was in the area on Saturday afternoon and may have spotted the van,” Terragni said.

The van was described as a nearly new, black van with tinted rear windows.

The driver pulled into the oncoming lane of traffic to pull up beside the girl, who immediately rode away on her bike, Terragni said.

The driver is described as white, 25 to 45 years old with a small, light coloured goatee.

He was wearing a black, cowboy-like hat.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321 and refer to file 2018-16012.
