A 58-year-old man whose body was found among bushes near the Nanaimo Parkway died as a result of a homicide, say Nanaimo RCMP.

The body of Randell Charles was found March 31 at about 6:45 p.m. near a dirt walking trail close to Tamara Drive, in the northern part of the city.

Nanaimo RCMP serious crime unit investigators believe Thomas was in an altercation that led to his death.

Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP said Wednesday it’s not known if more than one individual was involved in the altercation.

Charles was wearing dark clothing, including a black hoodie with a white logo on front, when he died.

He did not live in the area where he was found, and police do not know if he had been walking through the neighbourhood before his death.

Police plan to knock on doors in coming days to talk to area residents. They want to speak to anyone in the area between 2:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on March 31.

Police are also asking drivers to check their dash-cam videos for that time period.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2021-11524.
