Man dies, woman and two children hurt in single-vehicle crash near Port Alberni

A 28-year-old man died when the vehicle he was in went down a steep embankment off Highway 4 and came to rest against a tree outside Port Alberni, about six kilometres west of Sutton Pass.

A 28-year-old man died when the vehicle he was in went down a steep embankment off Highway 4 and came to rest against a tree outside Port Alberni, about six kilometres west of Sutton Pass.

The 25-year-old female driver and a three-year-old child suffered “significant” injuries, police said, while a six-year-old girl had minor injuries.

Port Alberni RCMP responded about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday to the single-vehicle crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police said that lack of restraints is a contributing factor to the seriousness of some of the injuries.
