Police in Victoria are investigating the death of a man in hospital Wednesday as a homicide.
The 59-year-old man was taken to hospital on March 16 with serious injuries and remained in critical care until he died, police said.
Victoria officers were called to a residential building in the 3000 block of Douglas Street, near Mayfair mall, about 2:30 p.m. that day to investigate a report of an assault with a weapon.
At about 11 p.m. March 18, patrol officers found and arrested a man. Details about any charges or court appearances have not been released.
Police said investigators believe the victim and suspect knew each other. They do not believe the public is at risk.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has classified the incident as a homicide. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 250-380-6211.
