Sooke RCMP found weapons and drugs, among other items, during a search of a vehicle on April 4, 2020.

A man remains at large after escaping from police in Sooke last week.

Two men were taken into custody last Thursday after officers searched a suspicious vehicle on Sooke River Road and seized a loaded 9-mm pistol, a pipe bomb or improvised explosive device, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The man who escaped was able to elude a lengthy police dog search.

He has since been identified by police, who plan to issue a warrant for his arrest.

On Saturday, Sooke RCMP officers encountered another suspicious vehicle.

In that case, officers found stolen items, licence plates not registered to the vehicle, drugs and drug paraphernalia, along with a number of cellphones and counterfeit currency. — Times Colonist
