A man was taken into custody by police following a standoff in a Victoria apartment building that shut down traffic near Royal Jubilee Hospital for several hours.
Victoria police confirmed a man was arrested shortly after 11 a.m., about five hours after they were called to the scene to respond to a serious assault.
The victim fled the apartment in the 1700-block of Richmond Avenue and was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the suspect refused to leave the apartment, leading to a standoff.
The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, which assists in the most dangerous and high-risk incidents in the capital region, and crisis negotiators were called in “out of an abundance of caution,” police said.
The road reopened to traffic shortly after the arrest.
