An 89-year-old man was killed Wednesday when he was hit by a truck on Royal Oak Drive.

The accident happened at 5 p.m. near Pipeline Road.

Saanich police and collision analysts are working to determine what happened. The man was not in a designated crosswalk, said Acting Staff Sgt. Damian Kowalewich.

The man was found injured and died in hospital a short time later. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with investigators.

Saanich police are appealing to the public for assistance.

“We believe that there are witnesses to this collision who we have not yet spoken to. Their information could help answer questions about what happened and provide some closure to the family and friends impacted by this man's tragic death,” said Kowalewich, public information officer for Saanich police.
