A 73-year-old man died Saturday in a single-vehicle crash in Nanaimo near the intersection of Poplar Street and Highway 19A.

He was the only person in the vehicle.

Several witnesses told Nanaimo RCMP that a RAV4 was travelling erratically just before the crash. It was headed north on Highway 19A near Terminal Park Mall when it struck a median and a number of signs before going down an embankment and rolling once, witnesses said.

Alcohol, drugs and speed are not factors in the crash, police said.

Investigators are looking at the possibility that the driver had a medical emergency.
