Ladysmith man charged with assault; police believe there may be more victims

A 34-year-old Ladysmith man has been charged with assault after he was accused of trying to force a woman into his vehicle. Police allege a man assaulted the woman outside her workplace in central Nanaimo around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

A 34-year-old Ladysmith man has been charged with assault after he was accused of trying to force a woman into his vehicle.

Police allege a man assaulted the woman outside her workplace in central Nanaimo around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The woman and the man know each other but police did not disclose their relationship.

The investigation is being led by Nanaimo RCMP’s domestic violence unit.

As the man tried to force the woman into his car, she broke free from his grasp, ran away and called 911. The man fled in his vehicle.

Kade Dwolinsky is charged with one count of assault. Ladysmith RCMP arrested him at a home several hours after the assault.

He has been released on conditions with a court appearance set for Aug. 20.

Based on evidence gathered to date, police believe there may be other victims “and by releasing his picture, it will further the investigation and encourage individuals to come forward and contact investigators,” said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.
