There’s still time to join a TC10K Training Clinic at one of 13 recreation centres in Victoria and southern Vancouver Island.

The 14-week training program is geared toward getting participants ready to run or walk the event’s 10-kilometre route on Sunday, April 26. The clinics are open to beginner to advanced participants.

The clinics take place in recreation and community centres throughout the region, with a variety of days and times to accommodate most schedules.

Each clinic offers four pace groups — one for walking and three running levels — for beginner, intermediate and advanced participants.

The clinic training program was designed by Lucy Smith, coach, race ambassador and six-time winner of the run. Each week, participants will progress in skill and fitness under the guidance of experienced clinic leaders.

“The TC10K is one of the most beautiful races in the world to walk or run,” said Smith. “By using this race as a goal, our supported clinics will teach you to train intelligently and safely and give you many positive skills to use well past race day.”

Clinic locations include the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre, Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre, Cook Street Village Activity Centre, Henderson Recreation Centre, Naden Athletic Centre, Oaklands Community Centre, Pearkes Recreation Centre, Saanich Commonwealth Place, SEAPARC, Shawnigan Lake Community Centre, University of Victoria, West Shore Parks and Recreation and Windsor Recreation Centre.

The 14-week training program costs $145 plus GST. It includes a technical training shirt and registration for the TC10K (including an event shirt). You can register directly at your local recreation centre. For clinic dates and times, go to runsport.ca/clinics.

• Early-bird registration fees are in effect until Jan. 31 for the TC10K, which also includes the Thrifty Foods 1.5-kilometre Family Run. To register, go to tc10k.ca.
