“It’s pretty much a status-quo budget,” said secretary-treasurer Mark Walsh.

Surpluses were used to cover the ongoing deficit in the district, which has about 20,000 students.

The Saanich school board, serving about 7,000 students, expects to pass its budget May 16, while the Sooke board is planning to finalize its budget May 28. Sooke has about 11,000 students.

Both Saanich and Sooke anticipate they will not have to make any budget cuts.

All 60 B.C. school districts must file balanced budgets by June 30 each year.
