Get fundraising take-out perogy dinner at Ukrainian Cultural Centre

The Ukrainian Cultural Centre is putting a pandemic twist on its monthly perogy dinner, offering the meal for take-out.

Before the pandemic up to 700 people would go to the centre once a month for a chance to dig in to home-cooked perogies, cabbage rolls, sausages and coleslaw. The last time that happened was in February.

“Since then, people just kept calling and asking when the event would return,” said Victoria Grando, spokeswoman for the Ukrainian Canadian Cultural Society of Vancouver Island. “With the new regulations, we decided to try something new, something different.”

To allow for social distancing, the meals are pick-up only and must be pre-ordered.

Perogy plates are $16 and include perogies, cabbage rolls and sausage accompanied by coleslaw and sour cream. For $19, guests can get the plate with a cup of borscht.

The deadline for ordering is today. Email ucc1@shaw.ca or call 250-475-2585. You will need to confirm a pick-up time between 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday. The pick-up location is the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, 3277 Douglas St.

Proceeds from the dinner will go toward unexpected maintenance at the cultural centre.

The Ukrainian Canadian Cultural Society of Vancouver Island is a non-profit organization established in 1978.
