Gas poured on occupied tent as man threatens to light it on fire

A man has been arrested after someone poured gasoline on an occupied tent in Cecelia Ravine Park and threatened to set it on fire with a blow torch. A woman and her dog were in the tent at the time, but neither were hurt.

A man has been arrested after someone poured gasoline on an occupied tent in Cecelia Ravine Park and threatened to set it on fire with a blow torch.

A woman and her dog were in the tent at the time, but neither were hurt.

Victoria police were called to the park, located off Burnside Road East, about 8:30 a.m. Monday and located a suspect. He was arrested for assault with a weapon, mischief and uttering threats, and was taken to police cells pending a court appearance.

About 6:30 a.m., the same man had been struck with a bat that had spikes on it. He was taken to hospital. After being released, he returned to the park.

Police believe the two incidents are related.

A suspect was arrested in the bat assault, taken to police cells and released with a court date and conditions.
