Victoria firefighters rescued a 29-year-old woman who fell out of a tree onto rocks near the Gorge waterway on Wednesday.

Battalion Chief Bob Jones of Victoria Fire said firefighters were called to Washington Avenue at 11:42 a.m. to assist paramedics who were trying to get the woman to hospital.

“We’ve had incidents there before when people have fallen off the rocks. It’s kind of a tricky spot, right at the end of Washington where it dead-ends into the Gorge waterway,” Jones said.

The woman was placed on a spine board and wrapped in a basket stretcher, then hauled up the bank using a rope secured to the rescue truck, he said.

The condition of the injured woman is unknown. It’s believed she may have suffered a serious head injury. There was no information on how she fell out of the tree.
