The case against an Oak Bay man charged with murder in the deaths of his two young daughters will go straight to trial without a preliminary hearing.
Andrew Berry, 44, is charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of Chloe, 6, and Aubrey, 4. Their bodies were found in Berry’s apartment on Beach Drive on Christmas Day.
Berry was taken to hospital with self-inflicted injuries and arrested at the time of his release.
On Thursday, Berry sat expressionless as he appeared via video from the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre, although he did acknowledge that he could hear the proceedings when asked.
He nodded at the end of the short session.
Berry’s next appearance is scheduled for April 11 in B.C. Supreme Court.
The Crown is proceeding with a direct indictment, meaning there will be no preliminary hearing.
