A former Victoria middle school teacher has agreed to a one-month suspension of his teaching certificate.

In 2016, Gregory Garost, a Grade 8 teacher at Gordon Head Middle School, made inappropriate personal comments to female students and had inappropriate physical contact with students, according to a July 4 consent resolution agreement with the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.

Garost was suspended by the Greater Victoria School District on Oct. 24, 2016. He did not teach after that date and resigned on Feb. 1, 2018.

On July 4, Garost agreed with the commissioner that his conduct constituted professional misconduct and was contrary to the professional conduct standards in B.C. His certificate will be suspended from Sept. 3 to Oct. 3.

The commissioner found that Garost had been previously disciplined for inappropriate interactions with students and had failed to modify his conduct.

Garost agreed not to make any statement to contradict or dispute the admissions and the terms of the agreement.
