Police are warning the public after a “significant mail theft” from a building in Esquimalt this week.
Victoria police said 77 mailboxes in a building in the 800-block of Dunsmuir Road were broken into sometime before 6 a.m. Thursday. Several items, including a laptop and mail, were stolen from resident mailboxes and the manager’s office.
“Mail can be targeted in attempts to compromise people’s identities for use in frauds,” Victoria police said in a statement. “Officers are working with the residents of the building to help warn them about the potential fraud attempts.”
Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call the department’s non-emergency line at 250-995-7654, ext. 1., or Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
