An Esquimalt man is facing possible child pornography charges following a lengthy investigation that resulted in a search of the man’s home last week.

On Dec. 5, officers from several areas, including major-crime detectives and the integrated tech crimes unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in Esquimalt.

“The majority [of the seized items] will be forensically examined in the coming weeks,” said a statement from Victoria police.

The investigation began March 29, 2017, when an internet child exploitation investigator became aware of someone who was allegedly sharing videos of child sexual abuse, police said. Police said the “extremely graphic” videos meet the definition of child pornography under the Criminal Code.

A search warrant was obtained after investigators determined where the computer user was located.

A 42-year-old Esquimalt man was arrested and released on a promise to appear in court at a later date, having to adhere to several conditions while in the community.

Victoria police are recommending charges of possession of child pornography and making available child pornography.
