Drunk driver who hit parked ambulance in Oak Bay at four times legal limit

A drunk driver “T-boned” a parked ambulance with its lights on Sunday in Oak Bay.

The ambulance was parked in the 3600-block of Cadboro Bay Road shortly after 10 p.m., Deputy Chief Mark Fisher said Monday.

No paramedics were inside the ambulance at the time of the crash.

“They were inside [a home] dealing with their patient, which was very fortunate given how impaired this individual was,” Fisher said.

A second ambulance was called after the crash.

The car’s driver, who remained at the scene, was arrested and taken to the police station, where his breathalyzer test came in at four times the legal limit, Fisher said. Such a high reading is “pretty unusual,” he said.

He is expected to face a charge of driving while impaired and is slated to make his first appearance in court on Nov. 29.

The driver was kept at the station to sober up, Fisher said.
