Victoria police are reminding people that drugs, alcohol and boating don’t mix after the arrest of a drug-impaired boater.

Patrol officers were called to the Dockside Green area on about 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29 after a person called about a boat stuck on a sandbar in the Gorge Waterway.

The boat had been stuck for a while and the operator seemed to be struggling, said Victoria police spokesman Const. Matt Rutherford. The caller suspected the boat operator was impaired.

The operator eventually brought the vessel to the dock, where police were waiting. Police saw signs the man was high on drugs.

He was arrested and an officer trained in drug recognition confirmed that the man was impaired. The man was taken to police cells before being released on a promise to appear in court.

Several conditions were imposed, including a prohibition on operating his boat for 24 hours.
