A woman who drove through a 70 kilometre an hour zone in Nanaimo at almost twice the speed limit ended up with an impaired-driving charge and her car impounded.

A Nanaimo RCMP officer conducting speed enforcement clocked the woman at 137 km/h about 9 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 19A, near the Nanaimo Golf Course.

When he pulled the car over he noted that the woman, in her 20s, displayed strong signs of being impaired by alcohol.

She provided two breath samples, with both registering a fail. The resulting charge of impaired driving was accompanied by a 90-day driving prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impoundment and her car being towed from the scene.

She was also given a $483 ticket for excessive speed.

The officer helped the woman arrange for a sober driver to get her and her two passengers home.
