Driver dies after SUV hits utility pole in Duncan

One person died after a vehicle hit a utility pole Monday night near Lakes Road and Tzouhalem Road in Duncan.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called about 9 p.m. to assist fire crews and paramedics after the SUV hit the pole and caught fire. The driver, the lone occupant, was dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone with dash-cam video of the area from 8:30 to 9 p.m. Monday to contact North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.

Police are also asking for witnesses to the crash or to the driving behaviour of the SUV, described as a dark-coloured four-door model, to come forward.
