Saanich police have pulled over another excessive speeder, this time someone who was going 178 kilometres an hour in an 80 zone.

The collar was made about 2 a.m. Saturday on the Patricia Bay Highway near McKenzie Avenue.

Police said the driver of the Mercedes coupe asked the officer for a break, claiming that the speed involved “wasn’t fast when they were a kid.”

The person plans on disputing the $483 ticket.

Excessive-speeding penalties — including seven-day vehicle impounds — take effect at 40 km/h above the limit.

Const. Markus Anastasiades said a driver was clocked at 179 km/h in almost the same spot on Jan. 1, while another driver was caught doing 100 km/h in a 50 zone on the Trans-Canada Highway near Uptown shopping centre last week.
