Victoria police investigate on View street between Douglas and Blanshard streets, after a pressure cooker was found on top of a garbage bin.

A downtown Victoria street was closed to traffic this morning as police responded to a pressure cooker on top of a garbage can. At about 7:30 a.m. the 700-block of View Street was shut down between Douglas Street and Blanshard Street after the large pressure cooker was reported to be sitting atop a garbage can.

An X-ray machine was used to determine that the pressure cooker was empty. “Out of an abundance of caution, the Explosive Disposal Unit attended and found it to be no risk to the public,” said Victoria police spokesman Const. Matt Rutherford.

The street was opened shortly afterwards, around 9 a.m.
