Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an attempted early-morning break-in of a bank deposit box last week by two masked men wielding tools.

Police said when employees of a Scotiabank branch at 6750 Island Highway North arrived for work on Tuesday, July 2, they noticed a hole, drilled or punched at the bottom of the deposit box. The hole was about 20 by 30 centimetres in size and would have taken considerable effort to complete. Also, stucco had been pried or peeled off the wall.

A review of security video revealed two men wearing masks and gloves at work on the deposit box from 3:43 a.m. until they gave up at 4:50 a.m. They failed to breach the security box.

If you have information on these two men or recognize their clothing Nanaimo RCMP is asking that you call them at 250-754-2345. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
