Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a 58-year-old man was found in some bushes just east of the Nanaimo Parkway.

The body was discovered about 6:45 p.m. March 31 next to Tamara Drive.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded, but the man could not be revived despite emergency first aid.

“There’s injuries on the body,” Const. Gary O’Brien said. “They can’t be easily explained away.”

Police are to trying understand how and when the injuries might have occurred, he said.

Officers from the Vancouver Island Tactical Team were in the area the body was found on Thursday conducting a ground search.

“They’ll search the area and find if there’s anything,” O’Brien said.

The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating.

O’Brien said police would like to hear from anybody who was in the area walking, biking, jogging or driving from about 4 to 6:45 p.m.

Police would particularly like to talk to anyone with dashcam or cellphone video. Contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
