Police are investigating possible impairment and failure to use seatbelts as contributing factors in a crash north of Parksville that injured the drivers of both vehicles involved.

A man driving a Chevrolet HHR made an improper pass and clipped the Nissan Versa he was overtaking, according to B.C. RCMP Traffic Services. The Sept. 11 crash occurred on Highway 19.

Both drivers lost control, with the HHR leaving the highway and ending up on its roof. The driver was ejected and found under the car with serious injuries.

The woman driving the Versa was taken no hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

More witnesses are being sought by Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services, especially anyone who might have captured video of the HHR before the crash. Investigators can be reached at 250-248-6111.
