North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are warning merchants in the area to be careful when accepting U.S. currency after several reports about counterfeit bills.

A number of phoney bills have been passed in the Cowichan Valley in recent months. Police have identified a man and a woman as suspects, and have executed a search warrant at a Westholme Road home. Arrest warrants are being sought for the pair.

U.S. currency has security features to indicate its authenticity. The $20 bill, for example, has a security thread that glows green under ultraviolet light.
