A Colwood man who had just arrived on a ferry from Tsawwassen was arrested by West Shore RCMP Drugs and Organized Crime Unit and a kilogram of a substance believed to be cocaine was seized.

The unit intercepted the man, a suspected drug dealer, in his vehicle June 23 after he left the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.

After searching the vehicle, police seized a kilogram of suspected cocaine and $750 in Canadian currency.

The substance is believed to have been meant for distribution throughout Greater Victoria.

The man was arrested and released pending a court appearance on drug-trafficking charges.

The investigation of the 26-year-old Colwood man began earlier this month after the unit received information suggesting he was transporting drugs from Vancouver to Victoria.

“This is a considerable amount of suspected cocaine which is no longer available to local dealers who prey on our vulnerable and addicted,” said Const. Meighan Massey, West Shore RCMP media liaison officer. “Outcomes like this showcase our continued dedication to consistently disrupting the drug trade in our communities.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-464-2264. To make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477).
