A cluster of COVID-19 infections has been reported at Sir James Douglas Elementary School in Victoria.

A notice posted on the Island Health website says the potential exposure date was Sept. 17.

A cluster is when there are two or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in a school within a 14-day period and there is evidence of transmission within the school.

Public health officials are working with the school and school district to ensure close contacts are notified directly and provided guidance.

Island Health said no action is required unless parents are contacted by public health or school officials. Children should continue to attend school unless public health officials have directly suggested otherwise through a phone call or letter.

Notice of individual cases of COVID-19 at schools and school exposures are no longer posted publicly on the Island Health website.

Now only clusters and outbreaks are reported, and there are no longer school-wide notifications sent out over COVID-19 exposures at a school. Instead, only individuals at risk will be contacted.
