The 2020 Times Colonist Christmas Fund got off to a quick start on Thursday, with $19,340 donated to help those in need.

We also have our first match challenge: Andrew Beckerman, a frequent donor to our fundraising efforts, says he will donate $500 today, as long as two other people donate at least $500. Let’s do it; let’s see the fund rise by $1,500 or more – much more – today.

Last year, the Christmas Fund raised $350,000, and this year, the need is greater than ever.

The Christmas Fund sent $100,000 to the Rapid Relief Fund this spring. Most of the money we raise goes to the Salvation Army and the Mustard Seed Street Church, organizations with a proven record of helping your friends and neighbours in need.

This year, they are under more stress because of COVID-19. They need your help.

The easiest way to give is to go to timescolonist.com/donate. That will take you to the Canada Helps website, which is open 24 hours a day and provides an immediate tax receipt.

Or you could mail a cheque, payable to the Times Colonist Christmas Fund Society, to the Times Colonist Christmas Fund, 201-655 Tyee Road, Victoria V9A 6X5.
