Victoria police arrested a man with a history of sexual offences against children after he was spotted by an off-duty officer at Gonzales Beach on Friday.
Police said the man had previous convictions for sexual offences, including against children.
Officers were called to the beach just before 5 p.m. by an off-duty officer, who knew the man had court-ordered conditions barring him from public beaches and from being in close proximity to children. The officer called for on-duty officers to assist.
VicPD said in a statement the man initially fought with officers and a brief struggle ensued before he was taken into custody. No one was injured.
The man was held in custody. Police are recommending charges of breaching court-ordered conditions.
