The car stolen from a 74-year-old Times Colonist newspaper carrier, who was shoved to the ground by the carjacker, has been found in Victoria.

The 1999 Oldsmobile Alero was found parked illegally near Quadra and View streets on Tuesday and was impounded by a towing company, said Oak Bay Police Chief Andy Brinton.

Police had been looking for the vehicle since Sunday, when the newspaper carrier was shoved to the ground by a man who took his keys and drove away in the vehicle.

It happened about 3 a.m. on Island Road while the carrier was delivering newspapers. He was not injured, but was unable to deliver papers while his car was missing.

His wife was shaken because the thief had the keys to their home.

After being alerted by the towing company, Oak Bay police and forensic identification experts examined the vehicle to look for fingerprints.

“We are not able to discuss any details of the car examination in consideration of the ongoing investigation,” Brinton said.

The keys were in the car and nothing was missing from the vehicle, which was not damaged. The car has been returned to the owner.

Oak Bay police ask anyone with information on the car theft to contact them at 250-592-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
